GOLDEN JUBILEE OF SR. MARIA ACHANDIL (INB)
27th JULY 2013 was a great day for all the Salesian Sisters of the Province of St.Mary Mazzarello, Mumbai. It was the Golden Jubilee of our dear Sr. Maria Achandil. The jubilee celebrations began with the beautiful morning payer animated by Sr. Jostina Rodrigues and Sr. Teresa Joseph. Sr. Maria’s family members too were present for the prayer.
At 10 am the Eucharistic celebration began with the solemn entrance procession of the priests along with our Jubilerian, Sr. Maria and her family members. The main celebrant was Fr. Lawrence Mascharenes, Parish Priest of Madanthyar Sacred Heart Church and con celebrated by the assistant priest Fr. Clifford Pinto, and the other three priests were present. During the homily Fr. Clifford spoke about the three vows chastity, poverty, obedience.
The celebration hall was decorated beautifully with the colorful flowers and was packed to capacity with young people, relatives of our Sisters from Mangalore, our Salesian Cooperators, Sister representatives from all our communities of Goa and Karnataka and some even from other communities of the province. The program began with the Jubilee song sung by the hostel girls and was followed by a few delicate dances. Sr. Wilma De Souza, our Provincial, on behalf of the province expressed her gratitude to God for the presence of Sr. Maria and thanked her for her dedicated service. Sr. Maria thanked everyone and narrated her vocation story which delighted every one’s heart. Sr. Cecilia Crasta, Superior of Maria Kripa expressed her sincere thanks to everyone who collaborated to make the Jubilee celebration a truly beautiful one.

13th July was an auspicious day at Laura Vicuna Niwas, Ahmednagar, as we celebrated the Diamond Jubilee of the Religious Profession of our dear Sr. Alexandra Dias. The day was marked with thanksgiving, jubilations and festivity.
With flags in their hands and warmth in their hearts, our school students dressed in fine costumes accompanied by the school band escorted our dear Jubilarian to the school quadrangle which had an air of festivity and a wonderful gathering consisting of Sisters, co-operators, educating community, school students, boarders , past –pupils and women from self help groups .
A solemn thanksgiving Eucharist was celebrated by Rev. Fr. Ashley Miranda sdb where we magnified the Lord for the marvels worked in her life by being her Good Shepherd and for the role she played by being a shepherdess to the countless youngsters leading them to green pastures in the provinces of Chennai and Mumbai.
The festal evening continued with a spectacular display of various cultural dances, jubilee song, floral tributes from the various sectors of our house a loving message of our dear Mother General Mother Yvonne Reungoat and words of appreciation from our dear Mother Provincial, Sr. Wilma De Souza. The grand finale was the appearance of our dear Foundress wherein one of our teacher dressed like Mother Mazzarello and accompanied by the AYM girls came up the podium to greet our dear Sr. Alexandra on her joyous day.

International Award to Sr. Rosily Theckanath (INK)
Sr. Rosily Theckanath, a Salesian Sisters of Don Bosco from the Province of FMA Bangalore (INK), was given the ‘Excellence Award” and a Gold Memento at a function on 28 May, in Hyderabad.
The Award, instituted by the United Theological Open University accredited to the Berkeley University of California, was in recognition of her contribution to the field of school education in the State of Andhra Pradesh.
Known as an ‘Excellent Administrator with a Human Face’, Sr. Rosily is the Principal of Auxillium School, Secunderabad in Andhra Pradesh.
She has been a pioneer in education in some of the remote areas of the State, having started the Auxilium School in Nandigama, bringing affordable and quality education to the poor and the lower middle classes in the small town.
The school was known for its inclusive class rooms even before the Right to Education (RTE) came into effect. She did a similarly pioneering work at Banaganapalli, a small town in the drought prone region of Rayalaseema.
Presenting the Award, Mrs. Christine Lazarus, Member of the Andhra Pradesh State Legislative Assembly, said that we need more committed educators like Sr. Rosily Theckanath if quality education in inclusive class rooms is to become a reality in the country.
